Ingredients
- 1/3 cup Coconut oil- Reduces inflammation, keeping skin moisturized and helping heal wounds. The medium-chain fatty acids found in coconut oil also possess antimicrobial properties that can help treat acne and protect the skin from harmful bacteria.
- 1/3 cup Cocoa butter- Hydrating and nourishing to the skin and improves elasticity. The fat in cocoa butter forms a protective barrier over skin to hold in moisture.
- 1/3 cup Shea butter- The concentration of natural vitamins and fatty acids in shea butter makes it incredibly nourishing and moisturizing for skin. It is often used to remedy dry skin and to help protect the skin's natural oils.
- 1/3 cup Almond oil- The moisturizing properties of the oil work particularly well for people with delicate or sensitive skin, making it a good choice for dry skin on your face or to relieve itching and soreness from rashes and other skin irritations.
- 1 teaspoon Vitamin E oil- This helps to extend the shelf life of the butter.
- 15 drops Essential oil- I use lavender oil since it's safe to use on our baby's butt! Lavender oil not only boosts potent anti-inflammatory properties, but is also ultra soothing for skin with a therapeutic scent.
Instructions
- Combine coconut oil, cocoa butter, shea butter and sweet almond oil into a double boiler, and stir over medium-high heat, until the oils have melted. (If you don't have a double boiler, you can always use a glass bowl set over a pot of boiling water—like I did in the video.)
- Remove from heat, and add Vitamin E oil and essential oil.
- Pop into refrigerator for approximately 1 hour. (You want the oils to firm up but not get hard.)
- Whip it up with a hand held mixer, and you're DONE.
Massage into skin a few times a week. This is a really moisterising treat for your whole body.
This will last for 6-12 months, since the ingredients are shelf stable to begin with.
